Designed as part of a wider residential refurbishment, the brief was to create a discreet, elegant ledge beneath a large window — a place to perch, pause, or simply admire the view. Rather than build a bulky piece of furniture, we opted for a sleek, contemporary solution: a floating solid walnut ledge that sits effortlessly within the architecture of the room.

The decision to use solid walnut was driven by both function and feel. Known for its rich, dark tones and beautiful natural grain, walnut brings warmth and depth to an otherwise minimalist interior palette.

Its durability and dimensional stability make it ideal for a surface that may be used daily — to sit, rest, or display treasured objects.

To protect and enhance the wood, we finished it with a subtle, low-sheen oil that brings out the natural grain and ensures longevity without distracting from the simplicity of the form.
